Cliff Gevirtz, MD (M *81, PHTM *81), doesn’t hesitate to credit Tulane University School of Medicine for shaping his future. Tulane offered him more than a medical education — it laid the foundation of a successful career in anesthesiology and healthcare leadership. That’s why he’s supporting the School of Medicine this year for Give Green.
“I come from a very modest background. Tulane took a chance on me when they gave me substantial financial aid when I was a struggling medical student. I know I would not have achieved what I have achieved if Tulane had not taken a chance on me.”
Today, Gevirtz is medical director of Somnia, Inc., an anesthesia management company overseeing operations at sites across the country. The leadership skills he developed as a Tulane student continue to guide his work each day.
Gevirtz has remained deeply involved with Tulane, serving as chair of the School of Medicine’s Board of Governors and chair of his 40th reunion. His longtime support of the School of Medicine reflects his belief in giving back to the place that believed in him.
Gevirtz encourages others to join him in supporting the School of Medicine for Give Green. In particular, he reminisces about the impact of training at Charity Hospital during his time at Tulane. “It has been 20 years since Katrina destroyed Charity Hospital. Many of us learned to be physicians within those halls. The motto of ”See One, Do One, Teach One” was something we lived every day.”
To celebrate that shared experience, Gevirtz is sponsoring a challenge and a poster giveaway for the first one hundred donors to give $100 or more on Give Green on April 8th and 9th. The poster, created by Bryn McConnell (A ’23), highlights the unique history of Tulane School of Medicine.
From now until April 10th you can give a gift to the School of Medicine online at Tulane School of Medicine Give Green Day.
