2026 TMAA Distinguished Service Award
Dr. Cliff Gevirtz doesn’t hesitate to credit Tulane University School of Medicine for shaping his future. Tulane offered him more than a medical education — it laid the foundation of a successful career in anesthesiology and healthcare leadership.
“I come from a very modest background. Tulane took a chance on me when they gave me substantial financial aid when I was a struggling medical student. I know I would not have achieved what I have achieved if Tulane had not taken a chance on me.”
Today, Dr. Gevirtz is medical director of Somnia, Inc., an anesthesia management company overseeing operations at sites across the country. The leadership skills he developed as a Tulane student continue to guide his work each day.
Gevirtz has remained deeply involved with Tulane, serving as chair of the School of Medicine’s Board of Governors and co-chair of his class reunions. In 2021, he led the effort for his classmates to establish the School of Medicine’s Class of 1981 Endowed Scholarship Fund, which supports current and future medical students. In 2025, he sponsored a Give Green donor challenge and Charity poster giveaway to increase support to the School. His longtime support of the School of Medicine reflects his belief in giving back to the place that believed in him.
